The Esharelife team was kindly invited to attend the British Red Cross’ ‘Together’ reception, held on 25th September. Trustee Zilah Skerritt, joined by colleagues Zainab Oubihi and Anja Levanaj, attended this special event, which celebrated the power of shared humanity and highlighted the stories and experiences of the dedicated staff and volunteers who form the heart of the British Red Cross (BRC).
The evening was a profound reminder of the impact that compassion and resilience can have in times of crisis. Our team was deeply moved by the inspiring keynote speeches delivered by Dara Leonard and Dr. Carrie Garavan. Both are distinguished BRC staff members who have demonstrated remarkable courage and commitment, working tirelessly in challenging environments — from the UK to conflict zones such as Gaza — offering vital support and hope where it is needed most.
A standout moment was the premiere of the poignant new BRC film, Kim: The Long Way Home. This powerful documentary traces the journey of Kim, a former refugee who arrived in the UK seeking safety. With the steadfast support of Daphne, a fellow BRC worker, Kim and her family found refuge and care during a time of great upheaval. Today, Kim herself works for the British Red Cross, embodying the organisation’s legacy of compassion and the transformative power of humanitarian aid.
Guests were also treated to an exquisite dining experience, curated by the acclaimed chef Sally Abé. The menu was thoughtfully designed to honour the pioneering spirit of Florence Nightingale, a renowned volunteer whose legacy continues to inspire the humanitarian efforts of the British Red Cross. Each dish was a reflection of the frontline work and dedication that define the organisation’s mission.
The ‘Together’ reception was a particularly special evening that harnessed powerful storytelling to build connections and empathy for the incredible work carried out by the BRC. It highlighted the invaluable role of volunteers and staff in delivering life-changing support worldwide. We were honoured to attend and contribute to the British Red Cross’ mission of compassion.
Thank you once more to our friends, donors and supporters who make the work of charities such as the BRC possible each and every day.
Whoever you are, make a difference.
