Esharelife Foundation is delighted to announce a heartwarming update on Michael, the young student from Kenya whose life has been transformed thanks to the incredible support of our donors.
Michael, a bright young man who dreams of becoming an engineer, attends Cardinal Otunga School in Kenya. His journey took a painful turn when in April 2021, while helping his family, a nail struck his eye. Despite receiving treatments Michael developed glaucoma and risked losing his sight. In order to save his eye, Michael’s only option was to undergo a corneal transplant.
In Kenya, where access to healthcare remains out of reach to many, Michael’s family faced overwhelming challenges. His parents’ income was not sufficient to cover the medical costs of the surgery and the funds collected from the NHIF (National Health Insurance Fund) and the St Elena of St Charles Borromeo congregation were depleted due to the urgent surgery he underwent.
AVSI, which has been active in Kenya since 1986, collaborates with Esharelife to provide vital services such as education, clean water, food, and healthcare. Recognising the urgency of Michael’s situation, Esharelife launched a fundraising campaign to ensure he could receive the medical care he so desperately needed.
Thanks to Esharelife donors’ generous support, we were able to surpass the fundraising goal for Michael. He can continue with school, his vision restored, and his dream of becoming an engineer is firmly back in sight. This success story is a powerful testament to the impact of compassion and collective action. On behalf of Michael, his family, and all of us at Esharelife, we extend our heartfelt thanks to every donor who made this possible. Your support is not just restoring sight, it is building futures.
In Michael’s own words:
“I want to thank you very much, because this was a priceless gift, for me and my family, because I depend on my eye for everything… may God bless you and the people you love.”
Stories like Michael’s are a reminder that every act of generosity can create a ripple effect of hope.
